Reinhard Gehlend: Hitlers Top Spy

Reinhard Gehlen was Hitler's master spy; he was also a very well known legend. He was a major General for the for the German in World War ll.. Gehlen was born on April 3rd, 1902 in Erfurt, Germany. Reinhard gave his allegiance to the Nazis. Reinhard Gehlen was under the Nazi government of Adolf Hitler He was Recruited by the US to set up a spy ring against the Soviet Union. He was approached by Colonel Henning von Tresckow, Colonel Clause von Stauffenberg, and General Adolf Heusinger to participate in the assassination of Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944. Luckily Reinhard had a small role becuase the bomb failed and the conspirators were bruttaly punished when Hitler found out who had tried to kill him. On May 22nd. 1945 Gehlen was interrogated by Captain John Bokor. Reinhard Gehlen was valuable for the US because he had so much inside information concerning the Soviet Union. He offered them his information only if they agreed to give him his liberty and his friends who were put in American POW camps in Germany. On September 20, 1945, Gehlen and his three close associates were flown to the US so they could begin work for them. In July 1946 Reinhard Gehlen was released from the USA and flown back to Germany were he started his Intelligence work. After the War Gehlen became the President of the German Federal Intelligence Bureau and organized the Gehlen Orginization. Reinhard Gehlen died on the 8th of June, 1979, at age 77.

Franklin Roosevelt

Franklin Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882 in Hyde Park, New York. He attended Harvard University and Columbia Law School. FDR was the Thirty-second President and assumed presidency at the depth of the great depression. Franklin D. Roosevelt entered politics through Public Service, but as a democrat. Franklin Roosevelt was the fifth cousin of Theodore Roosevelt, who was a past president. Franklin was a Nominee for the Vice President seat in 1920. Franklin became New York Governor in 1928. He was then elected President during the year of 1932, he served four years. FDR had to struggle with the Great Depression at its lowest depth; 13,000,000 people were unemployed, almost every bank was closed. When Franklin Roosevelt was re-elected by a "top-heavy margin." Roosevelt sought to keep the United States out of war in Europe, but strengthen nations threatened or attacked. He began to send all aid short of actual military involvement. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, FDR organized the use of resources and man-power for Global War. Feeling the only way to gain peace between the US and Russia, Franklin Roosevelt devoted much thought to the planning of the United Nations. As the war ended Franklin D. Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage on April 12th, 1945.

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein was born in Wurttemberg, Germany, on March 14th, 1879. Albert Einstein has lived in the USA, swittzerland, Germany, and Italy. He has attended these institutions:Swiss Patent Office, Universtiy of Zurich, Charles University, Praque, ETH Zurich, Prussian Academy of Sciences, Kaiser Wihelm Institute, Universtiy of Leiden, and the Institute for Advanced Study.At age 17 Albert graduated and renounced his german citizenship to avoid military service. Albert was entirely agianst Nazism so an anti-Einstein organization was formed, and a man who was convicted of composing a plot to kill Einstein was fined a mere six dollars.Einstein became a US citizen in 1940 and stayed there the rest of his life. Many refugees from europe also living in the US recognized the danger of German Scientist developing an atomic bomb. One of these refugees was Leo Szilard. Leo had already tried to arrouse the atention of the US government but failed.So Leo went to Einstein and asked if he would work on writing a letter to the government;Einstein agreed. The two worked together and wrote a letter to the current president, Franklin Roosevelt, urging the US government to create such a weapon.Roosevelt recieved the letter and authorized secret research into the harnessing of nuclear fission for military purposes. This effort soon became the Manhattan Project. Later on Einstein told The Atlantic Monthly, " I regret writing the letter to Franklin Roosevelt". He regreted writing this because he did not want the US to pursue an atomic monopoly, but instead they should give the United Nations with nuclear weapons for the sole purpose of maintaining detterence. On the 17th of April, 1955, Albert Einstein died of internal bleeding caused by the rupture of an aortic aneurysm. His brain was preserved in hope that in the future, nueroscience would be able to discover what made Einstein so intelligent.
